APAC data residency stores your fsckmsft workspace data in Amazon Web Services’ Singapore region (ap-southeast-1), providing significantly lower latency for teams based in Southeast Asia, Australia, Japan, and the broader Asia-Pacific region. APAC residency is available on the Business plan.
APAC data residency is available on the Business plan only. Contact sales@fsckmsft.org if you’re on a Free or Pro plan and need APAC residency.

Primary regionap-southeast-1 (Singapore)
Failover regionap-southeast-2 (Sydney, Australia)
Data at rest encryptionAES-256
Data in transit encryptionTLS 1.3
All Customer Data, databases, compute workloads, and backup snapshots for APAC-residency workspaces are stored and processed within AWS’s Asia-Pacific infrastructure. Automated failover to ap-southeast-2 provides disaster recovery while keeping data within the APAC region.

How to request APAC data residency

Unlike US residency (the default), APAC residency must be explicitly selected or requested.

Option 1: Select APAC at workspace creation

1

Begin workspace creation

Go to app.fsckmsft.org/signup and start the signup flow.
2

Select 'Asia-Pacific' as your data region

On the workspace setup screen, open the Data Residency dropdown and select Asia-Pacific (Singapore).
3

Complete workspace setup

Enter your workspace name and billing details. Your workspace is provisioned in ap-southeast-1 immediately.

Option 2: Migrate an existing workspace to APAC

1

Contact support

Email support@fsckmsft.org with subject “APAC Data Residency Migration Request”. Include your workspace name, current data region, and any compliance deadline you need to meet.
2

Confirm your Business plan eligibility

Our team will verify your plan. If you’re not yet on Business, we’ll provide an upgrade path.
3

Review and approve the migration plan

We’ll prepare a migration plan including estimated maintenance window duration (typically 2–4 hours), rollback procedures, and a target date. Review and approve the plan before we proceed.
4

Migration and verification

We perform the migration during a scheduled window and notify all workspace admins before and after. Verify your workspace is operating normally — your Settings → Workspace → General page will confirm ap-southeast-1 as the active region.

Latency benefits

APAC data residency significantly reduces latency for teams in the Asia-Pacific region compared to the default US-east endpoint:
LocationLatency to US (us-east-1)Latency to APAC (ap-southeast-1)
Singapore200–250ms5–20ms
Sydney, Australia180–220ms25–50ms
Tokyo, Japan160–200ms60–90ms
Mumbai, India150–200ms30–60ms
London (for comparison)80–120ms170–200ms
You can benchmark latency from your office network by pinging apac-api.fsckmsft.org before requesting a migration.
For teams distributed across APAC with collaborators in Europe or North America, note that EU or US-based team members will experience higher latency when accessing an APAC-resident workspace. If your team is globally spread, consider whether US residency (geographically more central) or separate workspaces per region better fits your workflow.

Data protection and compliance in APAC

Singapore Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)

fsckmsft’s APAC deployment supports compliance with Singapore’s PDPA. Data is stored in Singapore and processed by AWS infrastructure certified under Singapore’s Multi-Tier Cloud Security (MTCS) standard.

Australia Privacy Act

For Australian customers, APAC residency means your data is stored regionally (primary in Singapore, failover in Sydney). Australian organisations subject to the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) may use this residency option as part of their broader compliance programme.

Japan APPI (Act on Protection of Personal Information)

Japanese organisations subject to APPI can use APAC residency to minimise cross-border data transfers. Contact legal@fsckmsft.org if you require a specific written commitment regarding data transfer controls for Japan.

Cross-border transfers

Some ancillary subprocessors (Intercom, Datadog, Stripe) operate from the United States. fsckmsft applies appropriate transfer mechanisms — including Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable — for any transfers of personal data from APAC-resident workspaces to US-based subprocessors. Full details are available in our DPA and Subprocessors pages.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Residency is configured per workspace, not per account. Your account can own workspaces in different regions simultaneously. This is useful for organisations with distinct regional business units that have separate compliance requirements.
No. Data residency selection is a Business plan feature. Upgrade to Business to unlock APAC (and EU) residency. Contact sales@fsckmsft.org for pricing.
Your workspace data remains in its current region when you downgrade — we do not force a migration. However, you lose the ability to initiate new residency migrations until you return to the Business plan.
